The goal of the City of Elko Planning Commission is to identify long/short term planning projects for the upcoming year that will improve the overall long range development within the City.

On Going Projects

Continue with the update of Elko City Master Plan involving the refinement of existing components such as:

  • Land Use
  • Streets and Highways

Continue with additional components to the Elko City Master Plan such as:

  • Public Facilities
  • Public Buildings
  • Conservation Component

Annual Review and update to Land Use Inventory of property under the ownership of the City.

Provide planning support and assistance to the City of Elko Redevelopment Agency and the Redevelopment Agency Advisory Committee. Designate at least one Planning Commissioner to periodically attend Redevelopment Agency meetings.

Continue to support future development phases of HARP (Humboldt Area River Project).

Continue with 8 Mile Creek/Mittry Park Project

Continue to develop and refine public information flyers in an effort to improve public service.

Zoning Ordinance Amendments

  • Review and consider a multi-family zoning district.
  • Review of the entire City of Elko Zoning Ordinance for update and revision.

 

Special Projects
  • Conduct an inventory of vacant industrial land within the city.
  • Evaluate zoning districts in the downtown area for possible modification strategies.
  • Review and make a recommendation regarding the Exit 298 Study.
  • Review and identify key pieces of right-of-way to secure for the further growth of the city, including possible annexations.
  • Provide support and a planning stategy in anticipation of the Union Pacific right-of-way acquisition to the City of Elko.
